I rode my Savage 12k kms last summer and developed a blue ring around the rear of the muffler just where it starts to taper.
It also developed cracks in the outer housing, it gets way to hot from lean mixture and too much restriction.
Suzuki gave me a new muffler under warranty and I drove a sharpened steel rod in from the rear, went right thru it, took a bit of pounding but no problem. The steel rod was the size of the rear hole.
I only drove it a few klics last fall after the new muffler but it had a much nicer deeper sound.
I also raised the main jet but left the idle, I like the backfiring.
It is a lovely bike and attracts lots of attention, girls like it because it is so small and neat and vibrates very nicely!
